How to keep your kids entertained on a road trip
If you’re coming to Australia, road tripping is the way to go. Definitely take a trip down the Great Ocean and check out the Twelve Apostles. Meanwhile, driving out into the outback is quite harrowing, but amazing experience!
Australia has so much to offer in terms of scenery and landscape, so naturally, road trips are very popular for young families. But how to keep your kids entertained while your in the car?
Portable DVD players have become the must have travel item, whether you’re road tripping with the kids or travelling first class to your favourite exotic destination. As many of us will be embarking on trips to see the family or enjoying a much needed getaway this holiday season, here’s are some great ideas for some “in flight” and “on road” entertainment.
If you’re heading out with the family for a long car trip, some good DVDs will keep your pack quiet for a good portion of the ride. If you have more than one kid in your brood, you might want to consider renting a car with an entertainment system to prevent potential squabbling over control.
For older children and teens, portable DVD players are a great option and you can hire them specifically for your trip. Headsets will let everyone have some privacy while an audio jack splitter (available at most electronic stores for less than $10) will give you the option of sharing with someone else.
Bring along a few options but make sure you still take plenty of breaks. And remember that the family road trip is meant to an interactive and shared experience, so while it may be tempting to plaster on the headphones for the entire trip, remember to take some time out for those ever popular road trip games!
Just remember that if you’re renting equipment in Australia, you won’t be able to bring DVDs from home as Australia is in a different region. Best to buy or rent them when you get there. Sanity has thelatest DVD new releases or you can even rent a one off DVD from the supermarket!
Have a great trip.

Great article! The portable dvd player is a must have for any road trip! I wish we had them when I was a child. Don’t have to drop a fortune on these, either.
