Some Upstate Winter Scenes
Winter is here and our favorite Adirondack places are snowed in and snowed under. On a recent trip to the North Country, I was able to snap some photos of Saranac, Lake Placid, and Tupper Lake. A hot coffee overlooking Mirror Lake in Lake Placid? Or a view of ice fisherman out on Tupper Lake? Or a beautiful Saranac frozen over? Santa’s Work Shop
Santa’s Workshop in North Pole, NY is one of those magical places everyone has to visit. Yes, there is a North Pole. Yes, there is a real post office there you can even mail cards from so they’ll be postmarked, “North Pole.” And yes, after this trip, I am convinced as ever there really is a Santa. Santa’s Workshop is as close as you’ll ever get to meeting the real Santa. #gallery-1 { margin: auto; } #gallery-1... [Read More...]

Well, close. They are super-super hard crystal, that give diamonds a run for their money (figuratively, of course). But where else can you don goggles and chisels, and go out breaking rock and find little gems within? Not many places! #gallery-2 { margin:... [Read More...]

Lake Luzerne, New York When you get off Exit 21 of I87, Lake George, we all too often want to take a right hand turn and head into Lake George Village. But if you make a left….drive 20 minutes, you hit the beautiful Lake Luzerne. Sleeping Beauty Mountain
Sleeping Beauty Mountain, Fishbrook Pond, andBumps Pond Near Lake George, NY (directions at bottom) I have hiked Sleeping Beauty many times. The photos are marked “08”, but I have been back several times, and the scenery hasn’t changed much. The hike is a favorite: It can be short and sweet, or long and wonderful, ranging from two miles to 9 miles, depending on how ambitious you feel. #gallery-5 { margin: auto; } #gallery-5...
