ALBANY, NY——Everyone is a suspect in Murder for Two, a hilarious musical murder mystery with a twist. One actor investigates the crime, the other plays all of the suspects and they both play the piano! A zany blend of classic musical comedy and madcap mystery, this whodunit is a highly theatrical duet loaded with killer laughs. 

Murder for Two, fresh from its hit New York run, plays at Capital Repertory Theatre July 10-Aug. 9.

Featuring book and music by Joe Kinosian, book and lyrics by Kellen Blair and direction by Scott Schwartz, Charles Isherwood, of The New York Times, calls Murder for Two, “an ingenious miniature musical in the form of a snazzy vaudevillian double act.” 

Roma Torre from NY1 calls Murder for Two, “A 90-minute jolt of caffeinated creativity;” and Jesse Oxfeld of The New York Observer says, “Who would have guessed that murder could be so fun? A noir-tinged detective story elevated to the heights of delicious farce!”

Kyle Branzel will play the suspects at Capital Repertory Theatre.Brandon Lambert will play Detective Marcus, July 10-19, followed byIan Lowe, July 20-Aug. 9. Lowe previously appeared at theREP alongside Souvenir star Georga Osborne in a popular 2009 production ofMy Fair Lady.

Murder for Two features choreography by Wendy Seyb, scenic design by Beowulf Boritt, costume design by Andrea Lauer, lighting design by Jason Lyons and sound design by Jill BC DuBoff.

Produced by Jayson Raitt, Barbara Whitman, Steven Chaikelson and Second Stage Theatre, Murder for Two first played New York in a limited summer engagement at Second Stage Theatre Uptown in summer 2013. It was extended twice, due to popular demand, before transferring to New World Stages for an eight-month run through June 2014. It is frequently extended in regional runs.

Murder for Two was developed at The Adirondack Theatre Festival, in Glens Falls, and 42nd Street Moon, in San Francisco. Chicago Shakespeare Theater presented the World Premiere Production in May 2011. It was extended four times, running for more than six months; and Kinosian and Blair were recognized with Chicago’s prestigious Joseph Jefferson Award for Best New Musical.

The original cast recording of Murder for Two, helmed by multiple Grammy Award®-winning Saratoga Springs producer Joel Moss and executive produced by Kurt Deutsch, features complete lyrics; never-before-seen photos; a show synopsis by creators Joe Kinosian and Kellen Blair; and an essay by Oscar® and Grammy Award-winning composer Stephen Schwartz.

Preview performances for Murder for Two take place July 10-12. Opening night is Tuesday, July 14. Regular performances continue through Sunday, Aug. 9. Performance times: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; and 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday—with matinees 3 p.m.Saturday2 p.m. Sunday; and 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 22. Capital Repertory Theatre, 111 N. Opening night includes live music in the café at 6:30 p.m., and complimentary post-show champagne and dessert. The Chef's Table performance, on Tuesday, July 21, includes live pre-show music and complimentary hors d'oeuvres for ticketholders from Albany Pump Station, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the lobby.

Discussion nights for Murder for Two, featuring cast members fielding questions from the audience, will take place following the Wednesday evening performances on July 22 and 29.

The Sunday, Aug. 2 matinee will be preceded by a Behind-the-Scenes event, which features a complimentary light continental breakfast for ticketholders and discussion led by theREP’s Producing Artistic Director Maggie Mancinelli-Cahill. Food service begins at 12:30 p.m., with the presentation following from 1-1:30 p.m.
