Short Description of The Theater Offensive

Latin@s -Trans, Queer and straight allies- have played a key role in The Theater Offensive's growth since the beginning. While September is typically the month where we celebrate National Latino Heritage and Latin@ accomplishments, I feel we should lift up the tremendous contributions Latin@s make every month of every year! To do that, in August, intern Ramon Arriaga and Volunteer Superstar Carla Berrios Cruz organized ¡Afuera con Orgullo!, a TTO Treats event to honor Latin@s at The Theater Offensive.

Orlando del Valle, longtime TTO Board leader was honored for his early organizing in Boston and his tremendous influence on our work. Orlando was instrumental in starting both Club Antorcha and the Latino Health Institute, as well as connecting us with key queer Latin@ artists and communities from the start.

Brenda Cotto Escalera flew in from her new home in rural Texas to accept the honor for her work in varied roles as our first full time
Brenda, Carla, Abe, Orlando, and Ramon.
True Colors Director, co-creator of the groundbreaking showsMotherlands and Immaculate Infection, and the director of Letta Neely's tremendously powerful play, Hamartia Blues.

Carla Berrios Cruz was honored for the unique energy she has brought to The Theater Offensive's community engagement efforts. A fantastic artist in her own right (violinist), Carla is a master of bringing people together in all their joyous intersectionality. If the personal is political, Carla proves that the social can be revolutionary.

For me, these three generations of queer Latin@ leaders exemplify the spirit of TTO. I hope you will join us in celebrating Latin@s this month - and every month! GRACIAS for all that you do!

LOVE & THANKS!
Abe
THE MISSING GENERATION
October 22-25 at Hibernian Hall, Dudley Square

We're thrilled to bring back award-winning transgender and queer choreographer Sean Dorsey for this exciting new production!

THE MISSING GENERATION by Sean Dorsey
THE MISSING GENERATION by Sean Dorsey
THE MISSING GENERATION is dance-theater that gives voice to longtime survivors of the early AIDS epidemic. Through intimate storytelling and luscious partnering by a multi-generational ensemble of dancers, this powerful show is a love letter to a forgotten generation of survivors - those who witnessed and experienced the loss of part of an entire generation of gay and transgender people to AIDS in the 1980s and 1990s.

Dorsey traveled across the US to record oral history interviews with longtime survivors of the early AIDS epidemic -- including Boston choreographer-activist Peter DiMuro -- and wove excerpts of these interviews into a lush, multi-layered soundscore.

THE MISSING GENERATION features full-throttle dance, luscious partnering, intimate storytelling and theater - performed by Dorsey's stellar, multi-generational ensemble of dancers: Sean Dorsey, Brian Fisher, ArVejon Jones and Nol Simonse.

We'd like to send a BIG TTO THANK YOU to Sean for using his talent to lift up these voices and tell these powerful stories of an important time in our community's history.

TTO'S LEADERSHIP MAKING WAVES IN BOSTON & BEYOND!

Executive Artistic Director Abe Rybeck and Managing Director Adrian Budhu have been pretty busy lately.

On October 8, The History Project is honoring Abe with the 2015 History Maker Award at their annual gala. And, recently Adrian joined the Board of Directors of the Theatre Communications Group where he will lend his expertise to strengthen, nurture, and promote the professional not-for-proft American theatre. Also, Adrian now sits on the Boston Creates' Leadership Council serving as an adviser, working to shepherd Boston's cultural plan into implementation.

Congratulations, Abe and Adrian. We're so proud of you!
