Short Description of Commonwealth Shakespeare Company

Shakespeare & Leadership: Othello
March at Babson College's Sorenson Center for the Arts
Jealousy rules the motives of nearly every character in
Othello, and creates a world where what people are and what they seems to be become indistinguishable.
The Shakespeare and Leadership series features a staged reading of a Shakespeare play performed by business leaders from the corporate world alongside professional actors. The reading is followed by a panel discussion featuring the participants addressing leadership questions and themes raised in the text.
Annual Gala 2016

Called "the best party of the year," all proceeds will provide crucial support for our beloved annual Free Shakespeare on the Common production as well as vital outreach programs.

Theatre in the Rough: Death and the Maiden with Pedro Pascal
April at Babson College's Sorenson Center for the Arts
After the fall of the totalitarian regime in Chile, a former political prisoner finds herself face-to-face with the man she believes was her captor. Is he guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, or is her paranoia getting the better of her? Featuring Chilean actor Pedro Pascal (Shakespeare on the Common: Hamlet, HBO's Game of Thrones, Netflix's Narcos).
Theatre in the Rough is a script-in-hand reading series presented without common theatrical elements like sets or costumes. These pared-down readings uniquely engage the audience by immersing them in the immediacy of the text and the actors' performances, allowing one's own imagination to take creative flight.
Previous participants include Seth Gilliam, Jeff Donovan, and Rutina Wesley.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream performed by CSC2
May 4-10 at Babson College's Sorenson Center for the Arts

With four interconnecting plots that dance between fairyland and real-world Athens, this tale of mixed-up romance lands somewhere between dream and reality. Featuring CSC2, Commonwealth Shakespeare Company’s acting company for early-career actors.
